Global Governance and Development discusses basic theories and concepts of global governance, with a special emphasis on developing regions and their participation in global governance processes. This lecture reviews both state and non-state approaches to resolve common problems of mankind in different issue areas. We will first focus on theoretical and conceptual issues. How do we understand global governance? How do different forms of governance and actors contribute to the provision of global governance? What is the role of developing regions and actors from developing countries in global governance? We then move on to examine specific areas of global governance, including the environment, sustainable development and the world economy, especially international trade. The course is open to students of MA Internationale Beziehungen und Entwicklungspolitik as well as MA Development and Governance.
