The lecture ‘Introduction to linguistics’ gave a survey of various linguistics subdisciplines. This seminar extends the introduction within two core fields of linguistics: morphology and syntax. We will discuss and analyze the patterns of English word formation and inflection as well as the structure of phrases and sentences with the special focus on the English verb phrase. Throughout the course, we will look at various real-life examples and apply our knowledge to different varieties of English (and other languages).
