In this beginner course, we will explore the basic building blocks of Spanish, in terms of both grammar and vocabulary. This highly interactive class emphasizes real-life competencies, such as introductions, ordering at a restaurant, and shopping. We will use a task-based approach to practice speaking and listening right from the start. The course is taught in English as it is open to international students. Because the material is designed for true beginners, instruction will move slowly for the first half of the semester and pick up speed in the second half. Homework and active participation will be evaluated for the final pass/fail mark. Students with more than beginner knowledge will not receive credit. Both course book and workbook are required. We will cover the first half of the book.
