Colonial history and its aftermath are prominent topics in many African novels. In this course we will research the context of Colonialism and its implication for different countries. We will analyse how contemporary novels deal with this issue and how they re-write or write against national or other official versions of histories. Our discussions will focus on two contemporary novels: Homegoing (2016) by Ghanaian author Yaa Gyasi and Dust (2014) by Kenyan writer Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor.
