This part of module DA 1 explores sociological perspectives on the societies of China (with Taiwan), South Korea, and Japan.
The course will introduce
students to examples of how East Asia (or an individual country of the region)
is dealt with and used as an object of academic investigation in sociology. The
goal is to strengthen students' understanding on the one hand of how to apply
methods and concepts from the disciplines in the East Asian context and on the
other of pertinent socio-political conditions in the region. The course will
begin with a general introduction into the societies of the region and then in
the following sessions discuss peer reviewed articles from the discipline on
selected topics.
