The module contains two seminars:
Seminar 1: Institutions and Organizations in Japan
This part of the advanced module provides an overview of contemporary institutional changes in Japanese society, especially in relation to education, rapid aging, rising social inequality, changes in gender relations and the effects of globalization on Japanese society.
Seminar 2: Research on Japanese Social Institutional Change
This part of the advanced module introduces and trains major data sources for analyzing population shifts (demographic change), value changes, education, social stratification and the internationalization of the Japanese society to aid students in the development of a research paper on one dimension of contemporary social institutional change in Japan.

EN: In this course students of the bachelor study program Moderne Ostasienstudien will gain a comprehensive overview of the societies of Japan and Korea. The topics will cover post-war and current developments as well as emerging concerns in modernisation, social structure, youth, gender and change in civil society respectively.
