This seminar will provide students with an introduction to Australian literature, culture and history from the colonial period to the national period. Given the dispossession of Indigenous Australians that began with the landing of James Cook's Endeavour in 1770 and the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, special consideration will be given to literature by Indigenous Australian authors, including oral traditions and political poems.
Participants will also have access to the Digital Australian Studies Lab (DAS Lab), an innovative e-learning course that will help you familiarise further with Australian history and culture as well as related Australian topics.
