This lecture course will provide students with an introduction to Australian literature from the colonial to the national period. Given the dispossession of Indigenous Australians that began with the landing of James Cook's Endeavour in 1770 and the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, special consideration will be given to literature by Indigenous Australian authors, including oral traditions and political poems.
A selection of recommended books will be put on special hold (Semesterapparat), and a number of excerpts from longer texts will be made available to students via a Moodle course. Participants will also have access to the Digital Australian Studies Lab (DAS Lab), an innovative e-learning course that will help you familiarise with Australian history and culture.
