This lecture course will provide students with an introduction to Australian literature from the colonial to the national period. Given the dispossession of Indigenous Australians that began with the landing of James Cook's Endeavour in 1770 and the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, special consideration will be given to literature by Indigenous Australian authors, including oral traditions and political poems.
A selection of recommended books will be put on special hold (Semesterapparat), and a number of excerpts from longer texts will be made available to students via a Moodle course. Participants will also have access to the Digital Australian Studies Lab (DAS Lab), an innovative e-learning course that will help you familiarise with Australian history and culture.

The goal of the bachelor project is to introduce students to mobile robotics and the challenges associated with it. In this project, a mobile robot serves as the base on which the implementations are tested. Depending on their interest, students can either use an existing small robotic arm or build a small arm/gripper themselves, learning the basics of CAD and/or PCB design. The logic of the robot is controlled using the OpenSource library OpenCV via a camera and, depending on interest, the use of neural networks can also be considered.
For the project we expect a high degree of motivation from the students to learn new skills and languages. Ideally, prior knowledge of the languages C++ or Python exists, but is not a requirement.

The goal of this bachelor project is to familiarize students with
basic problems related to the surveillance of parking lots. Within the
project, participants will be implementing different
surveillance-related tasks, such as estimating parking space utilization or detecting illegally parked cars.
Thereby, students will get in touch with the OpenCV library that implements a broad range of computer vision algorithms, most notably neural networks, feature-matching or image manipulation.
Participants in this course are expected to be highly motivated and must have a solid understanding of one programming language, knowledge of programming in Java or C++ are of advantage

The first aim of this course is to give students the opportunity to improve their receptive language skills (listening and reading comprehension) with the help of authentic materials. At the same time students will be encouraged to enlarge their vocabulary by focusing on a number of specific topics and vocabulary fields. The target vocabulary will first of all be introduced in context before students have a chance to encounter some of this vocabulary again in carefully chosen texts and to use it themselves during in-class discussions.
Furthermore, we will review a number of grammatical and lexical problem areas in English which cause difficulty and frequently lead to mistakes. Students will be expected to identify, correct and explain typical errors that Germans still make at university level.
